You asked, we answered

Everything about our oils, orders, shipping and honesty — in one place.

What exactly is cold-pressed oil?

Cold-pressed oil is oil that is squeezed out of seeds and nuts by pure mechanical pressure — no chemicals, no solvents, no roasting, no high heat. That's it! The seed goes in, the oil comes out, and everything nature packed inside it stays inside it. This is why we call ours Truly Cold Pressed Oils: the flavour, the aroma and the natural goodness reach your kitchen exactly as the seed made them.

What does "wood pressed" or "lakdi ka ghaani" mean?

It means we press using a traditional wooden ghaani — a slow-turning wooden pestle inside a mortar, exactly the way our grandparents' oil was made. Because the pestle turns slowly, almost no friction heat builds up. Slower press, cooler oil, richer aroma. It's beautifully inefficient, and that's precisely the point!

Are cold-pressed, wood-pressed and Kachi Ghani the same thing?

They're cousins, not twins. "Kachi Ghani" is the traditional Indian term for raw, unheated pressing. "Wood-pressed" specifies that the ghaani itself is wooden. "Cold-pressed" is the modern umbrella term for any pressing done without added heat. At KachiGhaani.com, we happily tick all three boxes — which is exactly where our name comes from.

How is cold-pressed oil different from refined oil?

Refined oil goes on a long industrial journey: solvent extraction, high heat, bleaching, deodorising and degumming. What comes out the other end is colourless, odourless and stripped of much of its natural character. Cold-pressed oil skips every one of those steps. One press, straight into the bottle, unfiltered. That's the whole story — and we're very proud of how short it is.

What is expeller-pressed oil, and is it the same as cold-pressed?

No, and this is worth knowing! Expeller pressing uses a high-speed screw press that generates real friction heat — often 80°C to 120°C. Cold pressing keeps temperatures low throughout. Many oils marketed as "cold-pressed" in India are actually expeller-pressed. Ours genuinely are not, and our process is open for you to see.

What does "first press" mean?

It means the seed is pressed once, and only once. Some mills press the same batch two or three times to squeeze out every last drop, but each repeat press degrades quality. We stop at the first press, every single time. The remaining oil cake goes on to become nutritious cattle feed — nothing is wasted.

At what temperature do you press your oils?

Our wooden ghaanis turn slowly enough that the oil stays well within cold-press temperature limits throughout the process — no external heat is ever applied. That gentle, unhurried pressing is exactly what keeps the natural aroma, colour and nutrients intact.

How much seed does it take to make one litre of oil?

Quite a lot — which is a big part of the honest answer to "why does it cost more?" Roughly 2.5 kg of groundnuts, around 2.5–3 kg of sesame seeds, and about 1.5 kg of dried coconut go into a single litre. Nature is generous, but not that generous!

Why is cold-pressed oil more expensive than refined oil?

Because everything about it is slower and smaller. Lower yield per kilo of seed, single pressing, small-batch production, careful raw material selection and no cost-cutting chemistry. You're not paying for a commodity — you're paying for a life-making ingredient, and there's a real difference between the two.

Is cold-pressed the same as "virgin" oil?

Very close! "Virgin" means the oil comes from the first mechanical extraction with no chemical refining — which is exactly what cold-pressed oil is. The word "virgin" is simply used more often for coconut and olive oil, while "cold-pressed" is the term you'll see across the wider seed and nut family.

Why are your oils more expensive than other cold-pressed brands?

Let us be brutally honest with you, because that is how we prefer to do business.

We could match anyone's price tomorrow. We would simply have to give something up — and every single item on that list is something we are not willing to lose.

We refuse to compromise on quality. Buy a cheaper cold-pressed oil, stand it next to ours, and compare the aroma, the taste and the freshness. We are confident enough in that comparison to actively invite you to make it.

We refuse to compromise on service. Customer satisfaction is our obsession here, and it is the reason you will struggle to find an unhappy KachiGhaani customer anywhere.

And we refuse to compromise on delivery. The finest product deserves the finest courier. Within India we ship only by BlueDart and Amazon; internationally, only by DHL or FedEx. Premium couriers cost us considerably more than the budget ones — and the budget ones are precisely why other brands' parcels turn up late, leaking, or not at all.

You are not paying more for the same thing. You are paying for everything a lower price would have had to remove.

What exactly am I paying extra for?

A fair question, and here is the itemised answer.

Yield. Pressing in a wooden ghaani extracts far less oil from the same seed than industrial extraction does — roughly 2.5 kg of groundnuts for a single litre — and we press once, never twice. Every repeat press would earn us more oil and cost you quality.

Our own facility. We press at our own plant in Changodar rather than buying from whoever quoted lowest this month. A great many 'brands' are simply a label on someone else's oil. Ours is not.

Small batches, short shelf life. Our oils keep for 4–6 months, not eighteen. That means no long warehousing, no bulk-buying advantage, and stock we would rather write off than sell to you stale. Freshness is expensive — it is supposed to be.

Certification and testing. FSSAI, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, GMP, Halal and USFDA registration are audited, not declared, and lab reports cost real money to produce and publish. Sellers who skip all of that save every rupee of it.

Hand-picked seeds, steel tank storage, glass bottle options and premium couriers. None of it is cheap. All of it is why your oil arrives tasting like the seed it came from.

Isn't a cheaper cold-pressed oil basically the same thing?

Sometimes. Very often not. And we would far rather you knew what to look for than simply took our word for it.

A great deal of oil sold as 'cold-pressed' in India is actually expeller-pressed, where a high-speed screw press generates 80–120°C of friction heat — more than enough to undo the entire point of it. Some is quietly blended with a cheaper oil. Some has sat in a warehouse for a year, which only refined oil can survive.

So please do not take our word for it. Buy a bottle of the cheapest cold-pressed oil you can find, and a bottle of ours. Smell them side by side. Taste them side by side. Cook with both. That comparison is the single most persuasive thing we own, which is exactly why we keep pointing customers towards it.

If you would rather test us before committing, start with our Trial Pack. That is precisely what it is there for.

Your oil costs more per litre. Is it really worth it?

Look at cost per meal rather than cost per litre, and the gap narrows faster than you would expect.

Cold-pressed oil is dramatically more flavourful than refined oil, and almost everyone who switches ends up using less of it. We usually suggest starting at about three-quarters of your usual quantity, and plenty of families settle lower still. A bottle lasts longer than the label alone suggests.

Then weigh what else is in that price: oil that is genuinely fresh rather than a year old, from a facility whose certifications you can check, with lab reports you can read before you order, delivered by a courier that actually turns up.

And here is the part that matters most. This is the one ingredient that goes into almost everything your family eats, every single day. Of all the places in your kitchen to economise, we would gently suggest this is the very worst one.

Why do you only ship by BlueDart, Amazon, DHL and FedEx?

Because the finest product deserves the finest courier — and because we have seen exactly what happens otherwise.

Within India we ship exclusively by BlueDart and Amazon. Internationally, by DHL or FedEx depending on your location. These are premium services and they cost us significantly more than the budget couriers most sellers quietly use.

That difference buys you something very real: parcels that arrive on time, handled properly, and intact. Cheap couriers are the single biggest cause of late deliveries, damaged bottles and leaking oil in this industry. We would far rather absorb the cost ourselves than hand you that experience.

And if something does go wrong in transit, we replace it. That promise is only affordable because we chose good couriers in the first place.

Why should I choose KachiGhaani.com over another cold-pressed oil brand?

Here is the whole case, in one place:

100% truly cold pressed, preserving all the natural nutrients.
Made from hand-picked seeds, ensuring the finest raw materials.
Stored in steel tanks, maintaining hygiene and freshness.
Adulteration-free, guaranteed authenticity — one seed, one oil, nothing else.
100% transparent extraction, so you know exactly what you are getting.
Delivered fresh, typically within a week in India.
Impacting farmers, supporting sustainable livelihoods.
And most importantly, made with love and care :)

We believe in brutal honesty. It is why we tell you plainly that our prices are higher instead of pretending otherwise, why we publish our lab reports instead of burying them, and why we would genuinely rather you compared us against someone cheaper than simply took our word for anything.

And that is why you can blindly choose KachiGhaani.com over other cold-pressed oil brands. We never disappoint. We always deliver what we promise. Either love your items, or we will make it right for you.

How do I know your oil isn't adulterated?

Three ways, and we invite you to use all of them! First, our third-party lab test reports are published openly — you can read them before you buy, which very few oil brands are willing to do. Second, we're FSSAI licensed (10724999001232) and certified under ISO 9001, ISO 22000, GMP and Halal, with USFDA registration for exports. Third — and our favourite — open the bottle and smell it. Real cold-pressed oil announces itself instantly.

Do you ever blend one oil with another?

Never. Not once, not a drop. Every bottle contains one single oil from one single seed. Blending is one of the most common shortcuts in this industry, and refusing to take it is a founding principle of the brand.

Are your oils lab tested?

Yes — and we're genuinely enthusiastic about it. Our oils go through laboratory testing, and the detailed reports are available for you to view directly on our product pages. Purity you can read, not just purity we claim.

Where can I see your lab reports?

Right on the product page of every oil you're considering — look for the lab test report link. If you'd like a report for a specific batch, just write to care@kachighaani.com and our team will be delighted to send it across.

What certifications does KachiGhaani.com hold?

We're FSSAI licensed (10724999001232) and certified under ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management, GMP and Halal — plus USFDA registration for our export operations. Few cold-pressed oil brands in India carry this full stack, and we maintain it with real pride.

What does USFDA registration actually mean?

It means our facility is registered with the United States Food and Drug Administration, which is a prerequisite for supplying food products into the US market. Practically, it means our facility, records and processes are held to standards that international regulators recognise.

What do ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 actually mean?

They are the two international standards behind how we run the facility. ISO 9001:2015 is the global benchmark for quality management — it means our processes are documented, audited and repeatable, rather than dependent on who happens to be on shift that day. ISO 22000:2018 is the international food safety management standard, covering hazard analysis and controls at every stage from incoming seed to sealed bottle. Both are audited by external certification bodies, not self-declared.

What is GMP certification?

GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice — the standards covering hygiene, equipment, staff training, record-keeping and traceability inside a food facility. In practice it is what ensures that if you ever asked us about one specific bottle, we could trace it back through the process. It sits alongside our ISO 22000 food safety certification rather than replacing it.

What is FSSAI, and does it mean anything outside India?

FSSAI is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, the national food regulator — our licence number is 10724999001232 and it appears on every pack. If you are shopping from outside India, think of it as our home-market food licence, equivalent in role to the FDA in the United States or the FSA in the United Kingdom. It is the baseline; our ISO 22000, GMP, Halal and USFDA registrations are what carry weight internationally.

Are your oils Halal certified?

Yes, absolutely! KachiGhaani.com holds Halal certification alongside FSSAI, ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and GMP. This matters greatly to our customers across the UAE and wider Middle East, and it's a certification we're very happy to hold and display.

Do you add any preservatives, antioxidants or chemicals?

None whatsoever. No preservatives, no TBHQ, no synthetic antioxidants, no anti-foaming agents, no artificial colour, no added aroma. The bottle contains oil. Only oil. Nothing else has ever been invited in.

Are your oils organic?

Our sourcing focuses on carefully selected, hand-picked seeds from trusted growing regions, and several of our raw materials are organically grown. Organic certification status varies by product and season, so please check the individual product page — we'd rather be precise with you than sweeping.

Can I test purity at home?

You certainly can, and we encourage it! Smell it — real cold-pressed oil smells strongly of its seed. Look at it — it should carry a natural, honest colour, not water-clear pallor. Let it stand — a little natural settling at the bottom is a very good sign. And taste a drop. Refined oil tastes of nothing at all; ours tastes of exactly what it came from.

Is cold-pressed oil healthier than refined oil?

Cold-pressed oil is significantly less processed, and that's the honest core of the answer. It retains natural vitamin E, antioxidants and the fatty acid profile of the original seed, and it never goes through the high-heat chemical treatment that refined oils undergo. As with any oil, quantity and variety still matter — but you're starting from a far better ingredient.

Does your oil contain trans fats?

Our oils are produced without hydrogenation and without high-heat refining — the two processes most associated with industrially formed trans fats. This is one of the strongest everyday arguments for switching to truly cold-pressed oil.

Which oil is best for heart health?

Different oils bring different strengths — mustard and flaxseed are known for their omega-3 content, while groundnut and sesame are valued for monounsaturated fats and natural vitamin E. Our warmest suggestion is to rotate between two or three oils rather than depending on just one. For personalised medical guidance, please do speak with your doctor or nutritionist.

Will cold-pressed oil help me lose weight?

No oil is a weight-loss product, and we'd never claim otherwise. What our customers tell us again and again is that cold-pressed oil is so flavourful that they naturally use less of it — and that meals feel lighter afterwards. Less oil, more flavour is a rather lovely combination.

Are seed oils bad for you?

This debate has been everywhere lately, and here's our honest take: most of the concern is aimed at industrially refined, solvent-extracted, high-heat-processed oils — not at seeds themselves. A seed gently pressed in a wooden ghaani and bottled the same week is a completely different product from a refined oil that has been through a chemical plant. The processing is the villain, not the seed.

Which of your oils is richest in omega-3?

Flaxseed oil, by a comfortable margin — it's one of the finest plant sources of ALA omega-3 available. Our black and yellow mustard oils also contribute meaningfully. A small daily drizzle of flaxseed oil over cooked food is one of the simplest upgrades you can make.

Should I use just one oil or rotate between several?

Rotate, wholeheartedly! Every oil has a different fatty acid profile, and traditional Indian kitchens have always varied oils by season, region and dish. Groundnut for everyday cooking, sesame for warmth in winter, mustard for pungency and pickles, coconut for South Indian dishes, flaxseed raw for drizzling. Variety is the whole joy of it.

How much oil should we use per person, per day?

Most dietary guidance suggests roughly 3–4 teaspoons of visible fat per person per day for an average adult. Here's the happy part — cold-pressed oil is so flavourful that most families find they naturally drift downwards from whatever they used before.

Are your oils safe during pregnancy and for young children?

Our oils are pure, single-ingredient, chemical-free foods, and families across India cook with them daily. That said, for pregnancy, infants and any specific medical condition, we'd always encourage you to check with your doctor or paediatrician first — we care about your family too much to say anything else.

I have a nut or seed allergy. What should I know?

Please read the label carefully and choose accordingly. Our groundnut oil contains peanuts, our sesame oils contain sesame, and our almond and walnut oils contain tree nuts — all recognised major allergens. Our facility handles nuts, seeds and sesame. If you have a diagnosed allergy, please consult your doctor before use.

Can I deep fry in cold-pressed oil?

Yes — with the right oil for the job! Groundnut and mustard oils are our stars for frying, handling high heat beautifully while keeping food crisp and light. Flaxseed, walnut and kalonji oils are the opposite: keep those away from the flame and enjoy them raw. Match the oil to the heat and you'll get the best of both worlds.

What are the smoke points of your oils?

As a practical kitchen guide: mustard oil is our high-heat champion at around 250°C, one of the better Indian oils for deep frying, tempering and high-heat cooking. Groundnut, sesame and coconut oils sit comfortably across everyday Indian cooking and shallow frying. Safflower is in the medium range. Flaxseed, walnut, almond and kalonji oils are best enjoyed unheated, drizzled over food after cooking.

Can I reuse oil after deep frying?

Once, gently, and no more. Let it cool fully, strain it through a fine cloth, and store it in a dark, airtight container away from the stove. Use it up soon after — ideally for a tadka or for brushing on rotis and dosas rather than a second round of deep frying. Repeatedly reheating any oil is best avoided.

Why does my oil froth or bubble when I add food?

Because it's real! Cold-pressed oils retain tiny amounts of natural moisture and seed solids, and these can foam gently when they meet hot oil. Refined oils don't do this because everything capable of frothing has been stripped out of them. A little frothing settles quickly and is completely normal.

Will your oil change the taste of my food?

It will enhance it — and this is the part our customers fall in love with. Groundnut oil brings a warm nutty roundness, sesame adds earthy depth, mustard delivers that unmistakable pungent kick, and coconut lends a soft tropical sweetness. Refined oil adds nothing because there's nothing left in it to add. Give it two weeks and refined oil will taste blank to you.

Do I need to use less oil than I'm used to?

Yes, and we'd love you to try! Start with about three-quarters of your usual quantity. The flavour is so much more concentrated that most families find this is plenty — and many settle even lower over time. Your bottle lasts longer and your food tastes better.

Which oil should I use for which cuisine?

Here's our quick kitchen map: Gujarati and Maharashtrian cooking loves groundnut oil. South Indian dishes shine with sesame and coconut. North and East Indian cooking calls for mustard. Bengali fish curries are practically incomplete without black mustard oil. And any salad or cooked dish is lifted by a raw drizzle of flaxseed or walnut oil.

Can I bake with cold-pressed oil?

Absolutely, and it's wonderful! Coconut oil is a natural fit for cakes, cookies and brownies. Groundnut oil works beautifully where you want a neutral-to-nutty background. Just remember that unrefined oils carry their own aroma into the bake — which, in our humble opinion, is a feature rather than a bug.

Are cold-pressed oils good for tadka and tempering?

They're magnificent for it. Tadka is exactly where an unrefined oil proves its worth — the aroma blooms the instant the mustard seeds crackle. Mustard, sesame and groundnut oils are our top three for tempering, and your whole home will know when you've made one.

Can I use your oils for pickles, skin, hair and oil pulling?

Yes to all of it! Our mustard and sesame oils are traditional pickling favourites, and the same food-grade purity that makes an oil safe to eat makes it lovely on skin and hair too. Coconut oil is perfect for oil pulling and hair care, sesame for classic Ayurvedic abhyanga massage, and almond oil for gentle skin nourishment. One bottle, many joys.

Which oil should a first-time buyer start with?

Groundnut oil, nine times out of ten! It's the friendliest introduction — versatile enough for almost everything you cook, with a warm nutty aroma that wins people over immediately. Once you're hooked, sesame and coconut are the natural next steps.
