Mustard warmth, without the sharp edge
The everyday sarson
Milder and a little sweeter than black mustard, with the same 250°C / 480°F smoke point — it fries, tempers and carries a curry all day long.
Pungent by nature, not by additive

Kapha & Vata pacifying
Warming by nature, in the tradition of North-Indian winters — for the kitchen and for the old massage ritual alike.

A little goes a long way
Everyday cooking & tadka
Heat until it just shimmers, then temper. Because it is the gentler mustard, it suits families still getting used to sarson oil.
Pickling & dressings
Sharp enough to preserve achaar, gentle enough to whisk raw into a salad dressing — something black mustard is rarely asked to do.
Winter massage
Warm a few spoons and massage it in — the traditional North-Indian answer to cold, stiff mornings.
In detail
The full story
Some families want sarso in the pan without the whole family coughing. That is what this bottle is for. Yellow mustard oil — peeli sarso ka tel — is pressed from yellow mustard seed in the same slow wooden ghaani as our black, at the same low RPM, with the same nothing added. All of mustard's warmth. Roughly half of its bite.
How is it different from black mustard oil?
Same press, different seed — and a noticeably gentler nose. Black mustard is bold and assertive, the classic Bengali and Bihari kitchen oil. Peeli sarso lands softer and a shade sweeter, which is why it tends to be the bottle households start with, and the one they keep for children and for guests who did not grow up on sarso. Everything else is identical: unrefined, unbleached, undeodorised, amber in the glass. If you want the full punch for achaar and the winter malish, that is our Truly Cold Pressed Black Mustard Oil.
Where does the sharpness come from at all?
From the seed itself. Crush mustard and it releases allyl isothiocyanate — the compound responsible for that lift at the back of the nose. Cold pressing keeps it. Refining removes it: bleaching earth and a deodorising column near 200°C take out the aroma and the bite in one pass, which is why kachi ghani mustard oil smells the way it does and refined mustard oil is nearly silent. Nothing sharp has been added to this bottle, and nothing has been taken away.
What should I cook with it?
The everyday rota, and then some:
- Daily tadka for dal, sabzi and khichdi — heat until it just shimmers, then temper
- Sarson ka saag, aloo gobhi, baingan bharta, fish and egg curries
- Achaar — still sharp enough to keep a jar honest through the season (why achaar is made with kachi ghani mustard oil)
- Salad dressings and raw drizzles, which black mustard is rarely gentle enough for
- Deep frying pakoda, kachori and puri — its 250°C smoke point is among the highest of any unrefined oil
Can you deep fry in it?
Yes, comfortably. At around 250°C it holds a kadhai at temperature without breaking down, which is rare in an unrefined oil and the reason mustard has fried Indian food for centuries. For everyday cooking the real contest is usually between this and shengdana tel — groundnut oil versus mustard oil works it through region by region.
The malish, and the Ayurvedic reading
Warmed a little and worked into the skin, sarso is the oil of North Indian winter mornings and of the champi that has been sending the region to sleep for generations. In the Ayurvedic tradition mustard is read as a warming oil, one of the choices described for cold-weather ritucharya. We share that as tradition, not as advice. For infants, read which oil suits a baby massage, and when before you begin.
Store it cool, dark and tightly capped, away from the flame; the fridge keeps it freshest. It holds 4 to 6 months from the pressing date — short by design, because nothing is preserving it. Pressed at Changodar, outside Ahmedabad, under FSSAI licence 10724999001232 in an ISO 9001, ISO 22000, GMP, HACCP and Halal certified, USFDA-registered plant, batch-numbered and lab-tested. If your household has been putting off switching to real sarso oil because of the sharpness, start here.

Good to know
You asked, we answered
Black Mustard Oil or Yellow Mustard Oil — which one do I want?
Black mustard oil is the bolder sibling: sharply pungent, deeply aromatic, and the traditional choice for Bengali, Bihari and North Indian cooking, pickles and massage. Yellow mustard oil is milder and gentler, ideal if you love mustard's benefits but prefer the pungency dialled down. Many of our customers keep both!
Why is mustard oil so pungent, and does that fade when cooking?
That famous kick comes from natural compounds released when mustard seeds are pressed, and it's there because the oil hasn't been deodorised — that bite is the mark of an intact oil. And yes, it mellows beautifully the moment it hits a hot pan. Heat the oil until it just shimmers, then carry on with your cooking, and the sharpness softens into gorgeous depth.
Who should choose yellow mustard oil over black?
Anyone who loves what mustard oil does to food but finds the black variety too fierce — yellow mustard is noticeably gentler in both aroma and bite. It is the easier one for households new to mustard oil, for cooking that children will eat, and for anyone in the south or west of India where mustard is not the everyday oil. If you already cook Bengali or Bihari food and want that unmistakable kick, stay with black.
Is this the "sarson ka tel" I grew up with?
Yes, in the sense that it is pure mustard oil off a wooden ghaani with nothing added and nothing taken out. It may smell milder than you remember, both because we press the yellow variety here and because most supermarket sarson ka tel is expeller-pressed and blended. If it is the sharper memory you are after, our Truly Cold Pressed Black Mustard Oil is the closer match.
Is yellow mustard oil gentle enough for baby malish?
It is the gentler of our two mustard oils, and mustard malish for babies is a long-standing tradition in many Indian families — usually warmed slightly, sometimes with ajwain or garlic. That said, mustard is a strong oil for very new skin, and plenty of families prefer almond or white sesame for the first months. Always patch test, warm it gently rather than on a flame, and ask your paediatrician if you are unsure.
Does yellow mustard oil work for pickles too?
It does, and it is a lovely choice for milder pickles — lemon, carrot, mixed vegetable — where you want the oil to preserve without shouting. For a traditional Bengali or Bihari achaar with real bite, black mustard is the one to reach for. Either way, heat the oil until it shimmers, let it cool fully, then pour.
How is this different from your black mustard oil?
Same press, different seed. Black mustard is bolder, sharper and assertively pungent — the classic Bengali and Bihari kitchen oil. Yellow mustard (peeli sarson) is milder and slightly sweeter, while keeping the same high 250°C / 480°F smoke point. If mustard oil has ever tasted too strong to you, start here.
Why does it catch in my throat when I heat it?
That sharpness is mustard being mustard — pungent compounds that only survive true kachi ghani pressing and are stripped out of refined oils. Heat the oil until it just shimmers before you temper, and the bite mellows into deep sarson flavour.
Why are your oils more expensive than other cold-pressed brands?
We could match anyone's price tomorrow — we would simply have to give something up: the wooden press, the hand-picked seeds, the published lab tests, or the premium couriers. You're paying for everything a lower price would have had to remove.
How do I know your oil isn't adulterated?
Every batch is third-party lab tested and the reports are published for anyone to read. We're FSSAI-licensed (10724999001232), ISO 9001 & 22000 certified, GMP, HACCP and Halal compliant, with USFDA registration for exports.
What is the shelf life of your oils?
Four to six months from the pressing date on the bottle — deliberately short, because we use no preservatives and press in small batches.
Do you offer free shipping and Cash on Delivery?
Free shipping on all orders above ₹999 within India. COD available up to ₹50,000 — cash only, with a small handling charge.
Do you ship internationally?
To over 125 countries in 8–14 days — and you'll also find us on Amazon US, Amazon UAE, Amazon India, Noon and Walmart.
Why should I choose KachiGhaani.com over another cold-pressed oil brand?
Here is the whole case, in one place:
100% truly cold pressed, preserving all the natural nutrients.
Made from hand-picked seeds, ensuring the finest raw materials.
Stored in steel tanks, maintaining hygiene and freshness.
Adulteration-free, guaranteed authenticity — one seed, one oil, nothing else.
100% transparent extraction, so you know exactly what you are getting.
Delivered fresh, typically within a week in India.
Impacting farmers, supporting sustainable livelihoods.
And most importantly, made with love and care :)
We believe in brutal honesty. It is why we tell you plainly that our prices are higher instead of pretending otherwise, why we publish our lab reports instead of burying them, and why we would genuinely rather you compared us against someone cheaper than simply took our word for anything.
And that is why you can blindly choose KachiGhaani.com over other cold-pressed oil brands. We never disappoint. We always deliver what we promise. Either love your items, or we will make it right for you.
What certifications does KachiGhaani.com hold?
We're FSSAI licensed (10724999001232) and certified under ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management, GMP and Halal — plus USFDA registration for our export operations. Few cold-pressed oil brands in India carry this full stack, and we maintain it with real pride.
There's sediment at the bottom of my bottle. Is something wrong?
That's a good sign, not a fault — and we're always pleased when customers notice it! Our oils are completely unfiltered, so fine particles of the seed naturally settle over time. Refined oils look perfectly clear precisely because that goodness has been stripped out. It's entirely safe to consume and doesn't affect quality — just give the bottle a gentle swirl before use.
How long does delivery take?
Your order is processed and dispatched within 1–2 business days. Within India, express delivery then takes 3–7 business days depending on your pincode. International orders typically arrive within 8–14 days, though customs clearance in your country can add to that. You'll receive a tracking link by email the moment your parcel leaves us.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes — shipping is free on all orders above ₹999 within India. Below that, and for international orders, the exact shipping cost along with any applicable duties and taxes is calculated transparently at checkout, so there are no surprises later.
Do you offer Cash on Delivery?
Yes! Cash on Delivery is available for orders within India up to ₹50,000. COD is strictly cash-only in Indian Rupees — gift cards and store credit can't be used against it, and a small handling charge may apply. If you'd rather pay online, UPI, net banking, e-wallets and cards are all available through Razorpay.
Which oil should I use for oil pulling?
Sesame oil is the traditional answer — the Ayurvedic practices of gandusha and kavala are described with til taila, and of the sesame varieties the classical texts hold krishna tila, black sesame, highest. Our Truly Cold Pressed Black Sesame Oil is exactly that, unrefined and unfiltered. Coconut oil is a popular modern alternative and is gentler in the mouth if you find sesame too strong. In practice: about a teaspoon on an empty stomach, swished gently for five to fifteen minutes, then spat into a bin rather than the basin and rinsed away with warm water.
