Why the texts chose this one
The oil-pulling oil — and a great deal more
Made for oil pulling
In Ayurveda, gandusha and kavala are described with sesame oil — and krishna tila, black sesame, is the variety the classical texts hold highest. Shared as tradition, not as medical advice.
Deep, dark and nutty
Far bolder than white til — a single spoonful changes a stir-fry, a chutney, a til chikki or a winter dal.
Calcium-rich, Vitamin K & sesamin
Black sesame is the calcium-rich til, and its lignans and Vitamin K are kept intact by the cool wooden press.

A little goes a long way
Gandusha & kavala
A spoonful, swished gently for a few minutes on an empty stomach and then spat out — the morning ritual the classical texts describe.
Winter abhyanga
Warm the oil and massage from head to toe before your bath — the classic Vata-pacifying winter ritual.
Cooking & tadka
Medium heat, around 177°C / 350°F — tempering, stir-fries and til chikki, where its dark nuttiness belongs.
In detail
The full story
Most people arrive at this bottle for one reason: they read that oil pulling is meant to be done with sesame, and then discovered that not all sesame is the same. Black sesame oil — kala til, krishna tila — is pressed cold from black til in a slow wooden ghaani, settled for two to three days and bottled unfiltered. Dark, thick and unmistakably nutty.
Why black til and not white?
Because that is what the classical texts specify. Ayurveda describes gandusha and kavala — what the world now calls oil pulling — with sesame oil, and among the sesames it holds krishna tila, black til, highest of all. Coconut oil pulling is a modern substitution; popular, but not the original. What the tradition actually says about oil pulling lays out the sources. The practice itself is simple: about a tablespoon, swished gently for ten to fifteen minutes on an empty stomach, then spat out — never swallowed, never down the sink. We share this as classical tradition, not as advice.
What does it taste like, and what do I cook with it?
Darker, deeper and more assertive than white til — it will make itself heard, and it will colour whatever it touches. A single spoon changes a dish. Use it for:
- Tadka and stir-fries where you want the sesame to be the flavour, not the background
- Til chikki, gud-til laddoo and Sankranti sweets
- Chutneys, podis and a finishing drizzle over rice, noodles or a warm salad
Medium heat suits it, with a smoke point around 177°C. For deep frying, use a mustard oil instead. If you want the gentler everyday til for daily tadka, that is our Truly Cold Pressed White Sesame Oil.
What about abhyanga and the winter champi?
Til oil has been the oil of abhyanga, the daily self-massage, for as long as the practice has existed — warmed a little, worked from scalp to feet before a bath. It is also the North Indian winter champi oil. In the Ayurvedic tradition sesame is read as warming and Vata-pacifying, the oil of the cold season. Shared as tradition, not as advice. Whether til or coconut suits your hair better is a fair question: coconut oil versus sesame oil for a champi compares the two.
How do I store it, and how long does it keep?
This one lives in the fridge, below 15°C, capped tight. It keeps 4 to 6 months from the pressing date on the bottle — deliberately short, because nothing is preserving it. Cloudiness or a little sediment after refrigeration is normal for an unfiltered oil; why cold pressed oil turns cloudy, and how to store it explains what you are looking at.
Pressed at low RPM so the seed never heats, cleared by gravity rather than filter paper or bleaching earth, at our press house in Changodar, outside Ahmedabad — FSSAI licence 10724999001232, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, GMP, HACCP and Halal certified, USFDA-registered, every batch numbered and lab-tested. If you want to do the morning ritual the way it was actually described, this is the bottle it was described with.
At a glance
- Pressed from: hand-picked black sesame (krishna tila) seed. One ingredient.
- Smoke point: 177°C — medium heat
- Colour and aroma: dark, near-black; deep and nutty
- Density: 0.92 g/mL · Shelf life: 4–6 months · Storage: refrigerate below 15°C
- Naturally present: largely unsaturated fat, sesamin lignans and sesamol, vitamin E and vitamin K. Black til is the calcium-rich sesame, though most of the seed's minerals stay in the cake rather than the oil.

Good to know
You asked, we answered
What's the difference between your Black Sesame and White Sesame oils?
Black sesame oil is deeper, earthier and more intensely aromatic — a favourite in traditional and Ayurvedic use. White sesame (gingelly or til) oil is lighter and more delicate, which makes it the everyday choice for South Indian cooking, tempering and pickling. Both are superb; it simply depends on how bold you like your flavour. Both are also delicate enough that we'd suggest refrigerating them once opened.
Which oil should I use for oil pulling?
Sesame oil, traditionally — the Ayurvedic practices of gandusha and kavala are described with til taila, and of the sesame varieties the classical texts hold krishna tila, black sesame, highest. That is precisely what this bottle is: Truly Cold Pressed Black Sesame Oil, unrefined and unfiltered. Coconut oil is a popular modern substitute and perfectly pleasant, but if you want the practice as it was handed down, this is the one.
How do I actually do oil pulling with black sesame oil?
In the morning on an empty stomach, before brushing: take about a teaspoon to a tablespoon, hold it in the mouth and swish gently for five to fifteen minutes, drawing it between the teeth without straining your jaw. Spit it into a bin rather than the basin — oil and drains do not get along — then rinse with warm water and brush as usual. Never swallow it, and start at five minutes if you are new to the practice.
Why black sesame rather than coconut oil for oil pulling?
Mostly because that is what the tradition specifies. Ayurveda classifies sesame as warming and grounding and treats it as the base oil for most taila preparations, while coconut is cooling and came into oil pulling much later, through modern practice. Black sesame is also the more aromatic and assertive of the two sesames we press, which many people find makes the practice feel more substantial. Both are honest choices — we simply want you to know which one the texts actually name.
What is krishna tila, and why does Ayurveda favour it?
Krishna tila is the Sanskrit name for black sesame, and classical Ayurvedic writing ranks it above the white and red varieties for traditional preparations. It is the seed conventionally chosen for taila made for abhyanga, for gandusha, and for the colder months. We press it Truly Cold Pressed and leave it unfiltered, so the oil reaches you with its full aroma rather than a deodorised version of it.
Can I use black sesame oil for abhyanga, and is it a winter oil?
Yes on both counts. Abhyanga — the daily self-massage — is classically done with sesame taila, and black sesame is the traditional pick for the colder months and for vata-dominant constitutions, since sesame is considered warming. Warm a little in a bowl standing in hot water, never on a direct flame, and give it fifteen to twenty minutes on the skin before a warm bath.
Can I cook with black sesame oil, or is it only for traditional use?
You can cook with it — it is food grade and Truly Cold Pressed, exactly like the rest of our range. It is simply much bolder than white sesame, so it works best where you want the oil to be part of the flavour: pickles, robust vegetable dishes, a drizzle over rice or dal. For everyday tempering where the oil should stay in the background, our white sesame is the easier partner.
How do I actually do oil pulling?
Traditionally: first thing in the morning, before eating or brushing. Take about a spoonful, swish it gently around the mouth for a few minutes, then spit it out into a bin (not the sink) and rinse with warm water. Never swallow it. Start with a minute or two and build up as it becomes comfortable.
Why not coconut oil? Everyone online uses coconut.
Coconut oil is a modern substitution and plenty of people enjoy it. We simply press what the tradition actually describes — sesame, and black sesame at that. Coconut also solidifies below about 24°C, which makes it an awkward companion for a winter morning ritual.
Why are your oils more expensive than other cold-pressed brands?
We could match anyone's price tomorrow — we would simply have to give something up: the wooden press, the hand-picked seeds, the published lab tests, or the premium couriers. You're paying for everything a lower price would have had to remove.
How do I know your oil isn't adulterated?
Every batch is third-party lab tested and the reports are published for anyone to read. We're FSSAI-licensed (10724999001232), ISO 9001 & 22000 certified, GMP, HACCP and Halal compliant, with USFDA registration for exports.
What is the shelf life of your oils?
Four to six months from the pressing date on the bottle — deliberately short, because we use no preservatives and press in small batches.
Do you offer free shipping and Cash on Delivery?
Free shipping on all orders above ₹999 within India. COD available up to ₹50,000 — cash only, with a small handling charge.
Do you ship internationally?
To over 125 countries in 8–14 days — and you'll also find us on Amazon US, Amazon UAE, Amazon India, Noon and Walmart.
Why should I choose KachiGhaani.com over another cold-pressed oil brand?
Here is the whole case, in one place:
100% truly cold pressed, preserving all the natural nutrients.
Made from hand-picked seeds, ensuring the finest raw materials.
Stored in steel tanks, maintaining hygiene and freshness.
Adulteration-free, guaranteed authenticity — one seed, one oil, nothing else.
100% transparent extraction, so you know exactly what you are getting.
Delivered fresh, typically within a week in India.
Impacting farmers, supporting sustainable livelihoods.
And most importantly, made with love and care :)
We believe in brutal honesty. It is why we tell you plainly that our prices are higher instead of pretending otherwise, why we publish our lab reports instead of burying them, and why we would genuinely rather you compared us against someone cheaper than simply took our word for anything.
And that is why you can blindly choose KachiGhaani.com over other cold-pressed oil brands. We never disappoint. We always deliver what we promise. Either love your items, or we will make it right for you.
What certifications does KachiGhaani.com hold?
We're FSSAI licensed (10724999001232) and certified under ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management, GMP and Halal — plus USFDA registration for our export operations. Few cold-pressed oil brands in India carry this full stack, and we maintain it with real pride.
There's sediment at the bottom of my bottle. Is something wrong?
That's a good sign, not a fault — and we're always pleased when customers notice it! Our oils are completely unfiltered, so fine particles of the seed naturally settle over time. Refined oils look perfectly clear precisely because that goodness has been stripped out. It's entirely safe to consume and doesn't affect quality — just give the bottle a gentle swirl before use.
How long does delivery take?
Your order is processed and dispatched within 1–2 business days. Within India, express delivery then takes 3–7 business days depending on your pincode. International orders typically arrive within 8–14 days, though customs clearance in your country can add to that. You'll receive a tracking link by email the moment your parcel leaves us.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes — shipping is free on all orders above ₹999 within India. Below that, and for international orders, the exact shipping cost along with any applicable duties and taxes is calculated transparently at checkout, so there are no surprises later.
Do you offer Cash on Delivery?
Yes! Cash on Delivery is available for orders within India up to ₹50,000. COD is strictly cash-only in Indian Rupees — gift cards and store credit can't be used against it, and a small handling charge may apply. If you'd rather pay online, UPI, net banking, e-wallets and cards are all available through Razorpay.
