Why it earns its place
The thickest oil we press — and the most patient
Ricinoleic acid, around 90%
Almost no other oil on earth is built this way. That single fatty acid is what makes castor so thick, so sticky and so good at clinging to hair and scalp.
Hair, brows and lashes
The overnight hair mask, the bedtime brow-and-lash ritual, the cracked-heel rescue. Patience is the whole method.
Pressed, never chemically extracted
Most castor oil on the market is solvent-extracted or refined for industry. Ours is simply crushed cold in a wooden ghaani.

A little goes a long way
Overnight hair mask
Dilute one part castor with two parts of a lighter oil, massage into the scalp, leave it overnight and wash it out in the morning.
Brows & lashes
A trace on a clean spoolie before bed. A little goes a very long way — and never let it get into the eye itself.
Dry skin, heels & nails
Warm a few drops between the palms and work them into heels, elbows and cuticles.
In detail
The full story
Most castor oil sold in India is one of two things: a chemist’s bottle refined for an entirely different purpose, or an industrial grade pulled out of the seed with solvent. This is neither. Cold pressed castor oil — arandi ka tel — crushed slowly from castor seeds in our wooden ghaani, rested until it runs clear, and bottled with nothing taken out and nothing put in. For external use only. This is not a cooking oil.
What is it actually like to use?
Thick. Genuinely thick — it leaves the spoon in one slow rope rather than a stream, and it clings where you put it instead of running off. That comes from its composition: roughly 90% of castor’s fatty acids are ricinoleic acid, a proportion almost no other plant oil comes close to. The colour is pale straw, and it smells faintly of the seed and nothing else. Nothing has been bleached, deodorised or roasted out of it.
How do people use arandi ka tel?
Slowly, and in small amounts. Most people dilute it — one part castor to two or three parts of a lighter oil makes it spread and rinse out easily. Our Truly Cold Pressed Coconut Oil and Truly Cold Pressed White Sesame Oil are the two carriers people reach for most:
- Overnight hair mask — diluted, massaged through the scalp, left on and washed out in the morning
- Brows and lashes — a trace on a clean spoolie before bed, never into the eye itself
- Cracked heels, elbows and cuticles — neat, warmed between the palms
- Beard and hairline — a few drops worked in on wash day
Unsure which carrier to build your champi blend on? Coconut oil versus sesame oil as a champi base covers the choice and the usual castor ratios.
What does the Ayurvedic tradition say about eranda?
Castor is eranda in the classical texts, and it is one of the named oils in that literature — described for use on the scalp and hair, along the brows and lashes, over the joints, and in abhyanga self-massage. It has been in Indian households under that name for a very long time. We share that as tradition, not as medical advice.
Is it edible?
No. We label this oil for external use only — hair, scalp, skin, brows, lashes and nails. Please do not cook with it and do not take it internally. If you want an oil for the kitchen, that is a different bottle entirely; browse the cooking oils we press instead.
How do I store it?
Cap it tight, keep it cool and out of direct light, and glass suits it better than plastic simply because thick oil wipes clean off glass. Because it is unrefined it can look a little hazy when cold — that clears at room temperature and changes nothing.
Truly Cold Pressed at low RPM in a wooden ghaani so the seed never heats, settled and cleared by gravity alone, at our press house in Changodar outside Ahmedabad — FSSAI licence 10724999001232, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, GMP, HACCP and Halal certified, USFDA-registered, batch-numbered, lab report published. Castor rewards patience more than any oil we press: use it three nights a week and give it a few weeks. Pick your size and we will press yours fresh.

Good to know
You asked, we answered
Do you make Castor Oil, and is it edible?
Yes, we offer truly cold-pressed castor oil. It's traditionally used for hair and skin care and for specific therapeutic purposes. Please use it only as directed on the label and consult a qualified practitioner before any internal use — this one deserves respect rather than enthusiasm.
How do I use castor oil for hair, brows and lashes?
A few drops is genuinely enough — it is thick, and most people use far too much. For the scalp, mix it with a lighter oil such as our coconut or almond, massage it in, leave it an hour or overnight, then wash; neat castor oil can take two washes to lift. For brows and lashes, use a clean spoolie and the smallest amount at night, keeping well clear of the eye itself. Patch test first.
It is very thick and sticky. How do I make it easier to apply?
That heaviness is simply what castor oil is — it is the most viscous oil we press, and a thin, runny castor oil usually means it has been cut with something else. Stand the bottle in hot water for a few minutes, or blend it at roughly one part castor to three parts coconut or almond. It spreads far more willingly that way.
Is this the same as Jamaican black castor oil?
No. Jamaican black castor oil is made by roasting the seeds before pressing, which is what gives it the dark colour and its ash content. Ours is Truly Cold Pressed from unroasted seeds, so it is pale, clear and mild — a different product with a different tradition behind it, not a lesser one.
How is this different from the castor oil at the chemist?
Pharmacy castor oil is generally refined, bleached and deodorised for pharmaceutical use, which strips out the colour, the smell and a fair amount besides. Ours is pressed cold and then left alone, so it keeps its natural faint aroma and slight colour. Please follow the directions on our label, and consult a qualified practitioner before any internal use — this one deserves respect rather than enthusiasm.
Can I use castor oil for abhyanga or full-body massage?
Castor does appear in Ayurveda, but rarely neat and rarely as the main abhyanga oil — it is too heavy for that, and sesame taila is the classical choice. Where castor is used, it is usually blended in small proportion into a lighter base oil. If it is a daily self-massage oil you are after, our Truly Cold Pressed Black Sesame Oil is the more traditional bottle.
Can I cook with this or take it internally?
No. Our castor oil is labelled for external use only — hair, scalp, skin, brows, lashes and nails. Please don't cook with it or take it internally.
It's so thick and sticky. Am I using it wrong?
Not at all — that is simply what castor is. Dilute it: one part castor to two parts of a lighter oil such as our coconut or almond oil makes it spread easily and wash out cleanly. Keep neat castor for brows, lashes, heels and cuticles.
How is this different from chemist castor oil, or from Jamaican black castor oil?
Chemist castor oil is usually pharmacopoeia-grade — solvent-extracted or heat-refined and bleached for internal medicinal use. Jamaican black castor oil is made by roasting the beans first, which is why it is dark, smoky and more alkaline. Ours is neither: the seed is simply crushed cold in a wooden ghaani, so the oil stays pale gold and smells faintly of the seed itself.
Why are your oils more expensive than other cold-pressed brands?
We could match anyone's price tomorrow — we would simply have to give something up: the wooden press, the hand-picked seeds, the published lab tests, or the premium couriers. You're paying for everything a lower price would have had to remove.
How do I know your oil isn't adulterated?
Every batch is third-party lab tested and the reports are published for anyone to read. We're FSSAI-licensed (10724999001232), ISO 9001 & 22000 certified, GMP, HACCP and Halal compliant, with USFDA registration for exports.
What is the shelf life of your oils?
Four to six months from the pressing date on the bottle — deliberately short, because we use no preservatives and press in small batches.
Do you offer free shipping and Cash on Delivery?
Free shipping on all orders above ₹999 within India. COD available up to ₹50,000 — cash only, with a small handling charge.
Do you ship internationally?
To over 125 countries in 8–14 days — and you'll also find us on Amazon US, Amazon UAE, Amazon India, Noon and Walmart.
Why should I choose KachiGhaani.com over another cold-pressed oil brand?
Here is the whole case, in one place:
100% truly cold pressed, preserving all the natural nutrients.
Made from hand-picked seeds, ensuring the finest raw materials.
Stored in steel tanks, maintaining hygiene and freshness.
Adulteration-free, guaranteed authenticity — one seed, one oil, nothing else.
100% transparent extraction, so you know exactly what you are getting.
Delivered fresh, typically within a week in India.
Impacting farmers, supporting sustainable livelihoods.
And most importantly, made with love and care :)
We believe in brutal honesty. It is why we tell you plainly that our prices are higher instead of pretending otherwise, why we publish our lab reports instead of burying them, and why we would genuinely rather you compared us against someone cheaper than simply took our word for anything.
And that is why you can blindly choose KachiGhaani.com over other cold-pressed oil brands. We never disappoint. We always deliver what we promise. Either love your items, or we will make it right for you.
What certifications does KachiGhaani.com hold?
We're FSSAI licensed (10724999001232) and certified under ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 22000:2018 for food safety management, GMP and Halal — plus USFDA registration for our export operations. Few cold-pressed oil brands in India carry this full stack, and we maintain it with real pride.
There's sediment at the bottom of my bottle. Is something wrong?
That's a good sign, not a fault — and we're always pleased when customers notice it! Our oils are completely unfiltered, so fine particles of the seed naturally settle over time. Refined oils look perfectly clear precisely because that goodness has been stripped out. It's entirely safe to consume and doesn't affect quality — just give the bottle a gentle swirl before use.
How long does delivery take?
Your order is processed and dispatched within 1–2 business days. Within India, express delivery then takes 3–7 business days depending on your pincode. International orders typically arrive within 8–14 days, though customs clearance in your country can add to that. You'll receive a tracking link by email the moment your parcel leaves us.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes — shipping is free on all orders above ₹999 within India. Below that, and for international orders, the exact shipping cost along with any applicable duties and taxes is calculated transparently at checkout, so there are no surprises later.
Do you offer Cash on Delivery?
Yes! Cash on Delivery is available for orders within India up to ₹50,000. COD is strictly cash-only in Indian Rupees — gift cards and store credit can't be used against it, and a small handling charge may apply. If you'd rather pay online, UPI, net banking, e-wallets and cards are all available through Razorpay.
Which oil should I use for oil pulling?
Sesame oil is the traditional answer — the Ayurvedic practices of gandusha and kavala are described with til taila, and of the sesame varieties the classical texts hold krishna tila, black sesame, highest. Our Truly Cold Pressed Black Sesame Oil is exactly that, unrefined and unfiltered. Coconut oil is a popular modern alternative and is gentler in the mouth if you find sesame too strong. In practice: about a teaspoon on an empty stomach, swished gently for five to fifteen minutes, then spat into a bin rather than the basin and rinsed away with warm water.
